It all started in the summer of 2021. Inspired by Bill Gates’
Think Week, our colleague Jordy decided to spend a long weekend offline, in a house in nature. Four days without a phone, by himself, to read, reflect, and slow down. Just to try it out, as Jordy likes to do.
Then Ilya, another colleague, loved the idea and joined Jordy for a weekend off-grid, away from phones, busy city life, and a jam-packed schedule in Amsterdam. He returned fully rested, fulfilled, inspired by the books he read, and full of new ideas. One of them was to organize offline weekend getaways for people to unplug, slow down, rest, and reconnect with themselves, others, and nature.
Thought and done. In October 2022, Ilya and Jordy organized the first edition of
The Offline Getaway. They had one small oversight. They didn't bring a chef who could cook top-notch, healthy food. That’s where Valentijn came in, a friend of a friend who was happy to work as a designated chef for future events.
After having organized four getaways, our colleagues started fantasizing about bringing the offline philosophy to all Dutch cities. And in 2024, they decided to go for it. They started working full-time to empower people to reconnect with themselves and others in the non-digital world. They aim to make an impact at a bigger scale by inspiring people to build offline habits into their daily routines. That's where
The Offline Club MOYU notebook came into the picture.
